You can also receive a tax credit if you already own a home and buy another one. This credit is up to $6500 and you can receive the cash whether you up size or downsize. Income limits have been raised as well so if you make more than six figures, no worries. As long as you have owned for the last five of eight years you are in the money.
First timers can still receive $8000 in credits. Both scenarios need to be under contract by the end of April and you need to close the end by end of June. Remember you can amend your taxes anytime and receive the credit immediately. Always consult a tax advisor. Good luck.
